On behalf of Hearts + Balls Charitable Trust I want to extend our heartfelt thanks to Sport Charity Scotland for their support and commitment over the years. Your generosity and belief in the power of sport to change lives has made a real difference, not only to our charity but to many charitable organisations across Scotland.
What makes Sport Charity Scotland truly special is the passion and compassion that drives your work through the belief and medium of sport, and one that we share wholeheartedly at Hearts + Balls. Thank you for everything that you continue to do to support us and others in Scotland.

The invitation from Sports Charity Scotland (SCS) to be one of the charities benefitting from their annual fundraising dinner in 2023 & then again in 2024 could not have come at a better time for The Taverners in Scotland. At that time Taverners were busy rolling out their new WicketZ programme and the financial support received from SCS as a result of these two fundraising events was of significant help in increasing the number of hubs, especially in Central Scotland, where the WicketZ programme is thriving.
WicketZ exists to help young people from disadvantaged communities overcome barriers through cricket. This is delivered all year round in partnership with Cricket Scotland helping young people to engage into their local community hub with the focus on building crucial life skills and tackling issues that negatively effect young people.
Currently there are 4 Wicketz hubs in Edinburgh (Liberton, Craigroyston, Leith & Fettes) plus 5 hubs in Glasgow (Govanhill, Pollokshields & Springburn including 2 girls only hubs).
Sports Charity Scotland (formerly The Sportsman’s Charity) have over a period in excess of 40 years have built up an enviable record of supporting scores of Scottish charities. The Lord’s Taverners are most grateful to join the long list of those charities.

Distribution policy
The Sportsman’s Charity (Scottish Charity No SC033982) was established in 1983 to raise and distribute funds to other charitable organisations, particularly those which help youth, the disadvantaged or disabled through the medium of sport.
Who can apply?
Organisations registered with OSCR or with the Charity Commission. The Trustees will consider applications from charities working in Scotland in the fields of sport, children and young people, disability and the disadvantaged.
What we will fund
Over the years we have supported a wide range of charitable activities as witnessed from the list of beneficiaries. Our principal aim is to provide support which can make a significant difference to the delivery of existing activities, rather than funding running costs or overheads. A major proportion of the distributed of funds is by grants to smaller charities and projects. In addition, each year we identify two partner organisations which will receive a significant proportion of the funds raised at The Sports Charity Dinner.
The Trustees meet regularly to consider distributions and will be entitled to support causes for which no formal appeal letter or application has been made.
What we will not fund
Sports Charity Scotland has limited funds at its disposal and restricted areas within which it operates and therefore cannot support all causes for which appeals are made. We do not support individuals or animal welfare charities. We will not fund running costs or overheads.
Size of distribution
Most distributions awarded have been in the range £500.00 – £5,000.00. However, in addition, each year we identify two partner organisations which will receive a significant proportion of the funds raised at The Sports Charity Dinner.
